They are everywhere and they are constantly growing. By now all good cities and those that try to become cool offer their own ones: foodtrucks, streetfood markets, entire food halls – it’s all there! Burgers, tortillas, beef – whatever you want, you can potentially find it on a food market in your city.
An actual trend that I like. Normally, I am not a person who follows trends just because somebody whoohoo’s them. Nope, nothing for me. Still, foodmarkets and streetfood in general plus the awesomeness of foodtrucks got to me.
Originally, streetfood is meant to be a little snack between the big dishes that you can easily consume while walking. Every single day, about 2.5 billion people around the world snack on streetfood. I bet, that about 5000 of them have been to the Amsterdam Food Soul Festival this Friday, Saturday and probably just walk into the halls today. The Dutch capital invited foodlovers to the amazing Food Soul Festival, what are you waiting for?
I know streetfood markets from Berlin, some cities in Spain and from London. Still, every single time I am being amazed again by the creativity of the food stalls and trucks. Also, every single time I find something that I do not know and that I always wanted to try: whether its a seaweed burger, vegetarian gyros or Indian BBQ, I am simply in love with streetfood.
Amsterdam Food Soul Festival surprised me, yet again. I entered the Kromhouthal and was fascinated by how the festival was designed and set up. On the left and right side 18 different food trucks sold their culinary best, the dj sat on a tractor and in a giant disco ball and played finest soul music. You pay by little coins that you can exchange for cash or card.
The very first truck was a barbershop, which pimped the men before they start the feast. With its super authentic design and the typical red-white-blue turning thing in front of it, two barbers trimmed moustaches, cut hair and plucked eyebrows.
Oysters and champagne were sold on the bar of a classic oldtimer. Around it, super fancy chairs and tables waited for customers to endulge in the culinary awesomeness.
Walking into the hall you can directly see this smokey cloud coming from Smokin Roaster and the Smokey Goodness. Thumbs up for the Amsterdam Food Soul Festival, which succeeded in destroying my hangover and which showed me how yummy vegetarian meat can be. The Food Soul Festival is still open today, from 12 to 10pm.
Best. Burger. Ever.
Meat? Go!
The coolest DJ table on the planet.
Balinese Sate and Bintang Beer. Oh my god.
